since I was hooked on a drug as a child(nicotine) and can never quit, Is it fair to tax my drug.?

Seems that the government should not be so cruel to tax a life requirement drug if as a child I could drop coins in a machine and become an addict. right?

if you were a child you broke the law you have now forfieted your right to fairness in this area. if you were of consenting age then you have made the choice and you pay the consiquences. either way the govt has ever right to charge you whatever they want for your decisions. nobody makes you use nicotine… if it was something that you were required to do then yes.

The tax on tobacco is merely Extortion being pulled off by the government.
It is legal for the government to commit Extortion.
But illegal for organized crime to do it.
    Hmmmm.

Are you sure the drug your on is nicotine? Nicotine is not a life requirement drug. I don’t smoke and I am doing great. Alcohol and Tobacco are vices, and we should tax them accordingly.

So, you feel it would be a whole lot more fair for the rest of us to pick up the cost for your medical and hospice treatments when that stuff finally rots your lungs into dirt. There’s the cost of transplant and long term care and the space you’ll be taking up in hospice when the stuff is killing you inch by inch. I guess that you feel it’s OK for me to pay for that so you can go on poisoning yourself and choking the people around you.

o do come off it. in some states they tax food. There is also a tax in most states for cola or other carbonated beverages. There is not a tax for coffee though so I’m :)happy. Unless you get it at a coffee house and eat there, or rather drink it there, since they passed a ban on smoking in Ohio, I’m not likely to have that tax again.

People quit smoking all the time if you want to quit quit don’t blame the government. I choose not to quit smoking but, don’t blame anyone for my choice.

Since I have seen illegal aliens enter my county illegally, and I am addicted to seeing them rape, murder, and kidnap, does that mean the US government should not deport illegals? American government will tax ANYTHING, ANYTIME it want’s and needs to, if you want this kind of taxation to stop, you had best stop voting for democrat’s.

First of all, you can quit. You’re mind is more powerful than any drug. Also, I do agree the government should not be taxing you. But also, you knew when you started smoking that you could become addicted. It’s not the government’s fault you didn’t listen to the warnings. They are not taxing a life requirement. If you keep telling yourself that, than you will be an addict all your life. The government taxes everything, why not nicotine?

wrong the choice to drop those coins in the machine was yours to make.
Your statement that you can never quit is a load of crap.
You don’t want to quit. Ya I know you are reading this thinking I must be a UN sympathetic non-smoker well I have been a smoker for most of my 45 years, and I haven’t quit not because I can’t but because when you get right down to it I don’t want to quit I actually enjoy the habit. I do however understand the cost involved because if I end up suffering from one of the many illnesses linked to smoking I probably will be turning to the state for financial assistance to help pay for treatment. and that’s what the taxes from each pack sold go towards to help those of us to stupid to quit and to poor to pay for the end result.
